Healthcare for Millennials: Opportunities and Challenges

A lasting impact on Canadian healthcare can be achieved with smarter ways of organizing work. In this special presentation, you will hear about three promising areas of transformation. Professor Ivy Lynn Bourgeault cites opportunities to reimagine and reinvent how we organize the healthcare workforce, in response to critical health human resource challenges. Professor François Chiocchio recognizes the interdependence of work teams as another fruitful avenue for progress, emphasizing how diverse healthcare professions can acquire a new repertoire of skills to work more effectively together. Professor Craig Kuziemsky, for his part, identifies a role for business-of-health innovations enabling individuals to step outside their silos and become integrated into collaborative teams.

While employing contrasting research lenses, the presenters will each highlight new prospects to deliver positive change. Join us for a discussion of these intriguing possibilities to shape Canadian healthcare with:

  • Ivy Lynn Bourgeault, Full Professor, Telfer School and Holder of the CIHR Chair in Gender, Work and Health Human Resources
  • François Chiocchio, Associate Professor, Telfer School and Holder of the Montfort Research Chair in the Organization in Health Services
  • Craig Kuziemsky, Full Professor, Telfer School and Holder of a University Research Chair in Healthcare Innovation

The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Ken Farion of the Faculty of Medicine and the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). Dr. Farion is the Medical Director of Quality and Systems Improvement and an investigator with the CHEO Research Institute.
