Telfer Executive Breakfast Series: Family-Owned Businesses
Wednesday, October 11, 2017, 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Family-owned firms explore business performance through a particular lens that takes into account complex interpersonal relationships that extend beyond the end of workweek and span generations. This creates a unique perspective on succession planning and leadership development. For example, what factors influence whether entrepreneurial behaviours are continued across generations? Or, what factors enable siblings and, later on, cousins to continue the legacy of a striving family firm?
Please join us when Prof. Sabine Rau from the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) in Berlin visits the Telfer School of Management in October. Prof. Rau sold her shares in a large family business in 1990 and has, since then, become a leading family firm advisor and academic world-wide.
Researchers dedicating their efforts to the pursuit of evidence-based knowledge in the area of family-owned businesses help identify and understand best practices that inform family and organizational decision making. Professor Peter Jaskiewicz is one such global expert who has recently joined the Telfer School of Management’s Entrepreneurship group, and he will regularly host world-class visiting scholars and practitioners here in Ottawa. During their trips, these visitors will speak to students, meet members of the community and collaborate on research
