Dr. André Vellino will talk about Automated methods of harmonizing metadata for the analysis of "big-data" climate datasets
The long tail of scientific research data collections in repositories such as DataONE and PANGEA are both numerous and diverse. Yet the manual curation of research data can be difficult and expensive, thus placing greater importance on models and tools for the automation of digital curation tasks to enable the reuse and repurposing of datasets. This talk surveys some of the approaches that have been taken to the integration of data schemata iand examines how they apply to the harmonization of the metadata in surface temperature datasets in the Berkeley Earth project.
