MHA Bear Pit Session # 4: Leading in Complexity – The Ottawa Hospital Experience

Thursday, February 11, 2016, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Peter Drucker has described a teaching hospital as the most complex organization to lead and manage. Couple this with the complexity of the environment in which it operates and you have a recipe filled with changing ingredients, many cooks and combinations of possibilities. The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) fits this description to a tee. What are the main challenges that they face? What are the strategies that have to be embraced to deal with these always dynamic challenges? What are the important management competencies that TOH leaders have developed to guide their organization through these times?  Their President and CEO, Dr. Jack Kitts will share his insights with you grounded in his leadership experiences at TOH and with the health system as a whole.
