Telfer Executive Breakfast Series: Leadership as a Way of Being

Leading is an observable and creative action that can be described and learned. It is primarily an influence process, centred on building relationships, inventing possibilities, creating opportunities, and remaining in action. It is exercised within the context of our commitments and supports us in bringing out the best in ourselves and others so that we can accomplish much more as a team than either the leader or followers could as individuals.
Most of the time, we are acting in ways that has us get results that are simply an extension of our past – reactive results. This works until we commit to a future that requires more of us than our understanding of the past can provide. What we are really looking for are creative results that break this pattern of ongoing repetition. But where do we start?
This interactive dialogue will provide participants with insights and tools to help them explore and observe the phenomenon of leadership breakthroughs, and practice leading in a way that will allow them to move from reacting to circumstances in their environment to opening up possibilities for new and creative action.

James Clemens is an accomplished leadership coach and project consultant specializing in organisational culture change. He has over a decade of professional experience in executive leadership development and organisational effectiveness. Prior to becoming a management consultant, James was a manager of executive leadership programs in the Public Service of Canada as well as a Senior Policy Advisor providing strategic advice to the most senior levels of government on enterprise-wide change initiatives. James has extensive international and multi-cultural experience developing, leading and coaching executives and project teams to produce unprecedented results.
