Launch of Small Business Week with the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Minister of Small Business and Tourism

Join us at the Telfer School of Management on Monday, October 17, as the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Minister of Small Business and Tourism, will formally launch the start of Small Business Week.
In addition to remarks by the Minister, the event will feature brief presentations by Professor Barbara Orser on “Driving enterprise growth through informed decisions” and by BCom student Dasha Shakov who will share her experience of launching a small business. A question period for the audience will follow. Coffee and light snacks will be provided.

About our Speakers:
The Honourable Bardish Chagger
A natural leader and organizer, Bardish Chagger is devoted to inclusion and community building. From assisting with recreational sports for kids to volunteering with seniors, Bardish is committed to strengthening the bonds of the Waterloo community. Bardish was appointed Minister of Small Business and Tourism in November 2015, and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons in August 2016.
In her role with the Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre, Bardish has worked to foster diversity within the community providing opportunities for social and economic engagement. As the former executive assistant to former Member of Parliament Andrew Telegdi, Bardish has a deep understanding of the issues that are important to residents of Waterloo, including manufacturing, technology and innovation.
Professor Orser is a Full Professor and the Deloitte Professor in the Management of Growth Enterprises. In 2010, Dr. Orser was recognized by the Women's Executive Network as a 100 Most Power Women in Canada (Champion Category) and The International Alliance of Women World of Difference 100 Awards. She is an active advisor to the federal government and the former Chair of the Taskforce for Women's Enterprise Growth (2009-2011), a Canadian non-partisan consortium of prominent women business owners, SME service agencies, academics and industry associations.
Dasha Shakov, a third year BCom Marketing student, is an innovative entrepreneur who is sure to inspire and impress everyone she meets for years to come. As a student juggling a part-time job, yoga, travelling and extracurricular activities, Dasha still managed to find time to found Parcelly with her mother, an online parcel shipping company. The idea behind Parcelly is that it offers a unique gifting solution for long distance friends, family members, and loved ones.
