Hors campus : Women in Finance

Le mardi 10 mai 2016, de 7 h 30 à 9 h

Cet événement se déroulera en anglais seulement.

On May 10 join Hill Times Events as we explore what it will take to encourage greater participation of women in finance. Opening remarks will be delivered by the Minister of Small Business and Tourism Ms. Bardish Chagger, MP (Waterloo, Ont.).

This session will explore why there has been a decline in women-owned small to medium sized enterprises, the percentage of women serving on corporate boards and and the importance for teaching financial literacy to women and girls.

According to government sources, the percentage of women-owned SMEs declined in Canada between 2007 (16.4%) to 2011 (15.5%).  Financial literacy was one of the barriers cited in an Industry Canada report on women (and men) owned SMEs in Canada.  Power & Influence magazine also just published a feature on how women continue to be under represented on corporate boards across Canada.  In this session will explore what, if any policy suggestions can be implemented to reverse this trend.

Following the Hon. Bardish Chagger's remarks a distinguished panel will weigh in with their thoughts on what is and can be done to correct this.  Discussants include: Caroline Hubberstey, head external relations with Acxsys Corporation/Interac Association, Caroline Riseboro, president and CEO of Plan Canada International, Sharon Connolly, vice-president financing & consultation, Business Development Bank of Canada, and Victoria Lennox, co-founder and CEO of Startup Canada.  Power and Influence editor Ally Foster will moderate the session.

There is no charge to attend for Hill Times subscribers and $20.00 for non-subscribers. Advance registration is required.
