Le vendredi 16 septembre 2016, de 10 h à 12 h

(En anglais seulement) Today the growing media interest in pregnant celebrities allows for extensive exposure and scrutiny by pregnant women. How pregnant celebrities are portrayed can be a powerful influence and point of reference for women especially in regard to their physical appearance during pregnancy. With pregnancy a key part of the life stage transition into motherhood both positive and negative influences will impact on how women feel about themselves and potentially their developing baby. This study proposes and tests a theoretical model that analyzes celebrity pregnancy attraction and its ultimate influence over prenatal attachment within a sample of 478 pregnant women. The study contributes further to knowledge of the influence of celebrities in the media and the framing of body image issues within the important context of pregnancy. The results of the study lead to several recommendations for the management of pregnancy body image issues by health professionals and the use of pregnant celebrities in the marketing of pregnancy-related products.
